Middlesbrough Mencap Society was founded in the late 1940s as the Middlesbrough Society of Parents of Backward Children.

It was already a thriving organisation when our current President, Betty Curtis, joined in 1953.

It is now a local, registered, charity (No. 514482), affiliated to the Royal Mencap Society .

We hope to add more to this page, as we collect the reminiscences of our older members.
