Fairer Access?

You should have had a yellow leaflet through your door called 'Fairer Access to Care (FACS). The Government has told all Social Services Departments throughout the country to adopt the system.

This is what it means to you.

Social Services will be re-assessing everyone's needs for services - including the carers themselves. It will focus on various areas central to a persons independence.

It will be broken down into four areas of need - critical, substantial, moderate or low.

It is very important, when the assessment takes place everything you need to say should be said. It is vital that Social Services are fully aware of the needs.

Here is the crunch!

Because of the Council's budget for 03/04 services will only be provided for those who fall in the first two catagories i.e. critical, substantial.
The budget given to the council is only a 3.9% increase, far lower than those given to other councils in our area.

We are disgusted at this and have let our feelings be known to the Government via. letters to both our local MP's - Bell and Kumar.
