Middlesbrough Mencap publish Diabetes Brochure
We recently had one of our Gateway members diagnosed with diabetes and most of the written information she was given at the time was either childish or very difficult for her to understand.
Our Secretary then had a brainwave, why not do a brochure of our own aimed at adults with a learning disability? It could give general, easy to understand information plus useful telephone numbers.
We contacted a local diabetes nurse who assisted us in putting together the information and the 8 page A5 booklet was made available, free of charge, from our office.
It was mentioned in Mencap's Viewpoint magazine and we have been inundated with requests for copies from all over the United Kingdom. We have even received a letter from Camberley Mencap wanting us to know that they found the "layout and information and presentation excellent" and requesting a further 20 copies!
The brochure is now out of print
but we have made a pdf (592kb) version available for download.
You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader (free), or another program capable of reading pdf files, to use it.

We'd like to know who is benefitting from our booklet, (it helps with our grant applications), but you don't have to fill in the form if you don't want to.
